Shrimps and Noodles Soup

Food & Drink

As our adventures in Kdramas have expanded we have lots of food & drink observations.  We thought you could use this section as a reference tool!  In no particular order...

Soju

Apparently this is a distilled rice liquor that's incredibly popular.  From the actors' expressions it's not clear to me how tasty it is; but definitely a Korean drinking staple.  (2024 Update:  It's Great!)  Additionally you can mix soju with beer for even more fun.  After over-imbibing in soju you will need to go to the pharmacy & purchase a small bottle of 'Hangover Medicine' (which allegedly helps per Dr Google) and/or whip up a batch of Hangover Soup.  The recipe for Hangover Soup is apparently known by every Korean woman alive.

Gimbap

If you've watched the Extraordinary Attorney Woo you will know of her affection for gimbap!  These look similar to sushi but are made with rice, veggies, optionally fish, & sesame oil.  (Japanese sushi are made with vinegar instead of the sesame oil.)  When eating gimbap one does not nibble on the edge but rather pops the whole piece into one's mouth. Yum!

Bulgogi

This tasty dish is marinated meat (usually beef) that is grilled on a barbecue or stovetop griddle.  In many Korean restaurants each table has it's own little grill in the center of the table & you cook this dish yourself.

Tteokbokki

A popular street food - spicy rice cakes -  that are made from rice, eggs, scallions, and more.  These look like ziti noodles and nothing like what I would expect a rice cake to look like!  It's pronounced like 'tuk-bow-kee' but all those letters can confuse me.
