Korean Lessons....다시.

So up popped "Korean Lessons" on my Instagram feed. (You do realize that almost all my messages on social media platforms relate to Korea, don't you? Well the algorithms have figured me out!) I called the local Korean Church that hosts these classes and due to popular demand they added an adult class. There are 20+ adults with a wide variety of backgrounds who are enrolled along with yours truly... I'm one of 2 'seniors.'

Every Sunday afternoon I am spending 3 hours trying to converse in Korean! Class #1 overlapped with what I learned at local community college before dropping out and I felt super smart. I could tell anyone in the class that I loved them.... in Korean.

Teachers are all native speakers but do not typically wear hanboks. This is not really my class.

But now the class has been divided into 2 groups; absolute beginners & allegedly intermediate. I'm in the intermediate group (gulp!) It's such great fun to sit in the classroom and have this lovely Korean woman say a bunch of stuff looking intently at me.... while I have no clue what she is trying to get across. The other intermediate students can read Hangul pretty smoothly wheras I stutter and pause with each letter.

We also learn a bit about the culture and we've done some origami and TaeKwonDo. This week we're doing Kpop Dancing and I'm certain I'll be the star performer after my lessons in Seoul. I was thrilled when the TaeKwonDo Master thought I was 60. Hmmm I need to see if he's wearing a wedding ring....

Pat: You can do it! I admire your pluck.

Judy: The classes or the potentially single TaeKwonDo Master?

That's me in the Blue......

For those of you who have forgotten, King Sejong is the guy who invented the modern Korean Alphabet in 1443. A MAJOR advancement for Korea and an incredible achievement in this Gmama's opinion. You of course would know this had you watched the Kdrama titled Deep Rooted Tree.

And Song, I agree.... can't wait to visit Korea again and perhaps say something more than 'I love you!'

When we first met online, I mentioned that 'Hangeul Day is a public holiday', and you said "King Sejong"-I was so surprised!

You were the first foreigner I’ve met who instantly connected Hangeul Day with King Sejong.

I hope the day comes soon when we can talk together in Korean ㅎㅎ

Love it! 3 hours, and in the intermediate level and Kpop dancing! You're going to learn so much and have so much fun (especially if the TaeKwonDo Master is single :) ) Fighting! 💪
