It's Judy again! In addition to the Fabulous Kimjang vests that we can all be sporting there are further opportunities for those of us on the cutting edge of style. As I mentioned in an earlier post Ahjummas refer to 'middle aged women' and Halmeoni are 'grandmas.' Well, this particular look straddles both age groups so I'm sure it'll be a hit with most of our followers.
To get this look we'll start at the top:
Permed hair gets you noticed
Sun visor is a must
Neckerchief tied daintily under one's chin
Fun, long-sleeved patterned shirt if possible
Fanny packs are always convenient
Kimjang vest to ward off chill
Fabulous Yellow Plastic gloves... never can tell when we might make kimchi!
Fun, pants (either long or capri length) in a different pattern from the shirt
Rubber boots to ground you!
Yes! Start digging through your closet now to adorn yourself as a geniune ahjumma and be the talk of the town. Isn't it great to not have to worry about patterns and colors that clash? I know our male readers will be enchanted with our new looks.
Pat has a friend of a friend who actually wore this traditional ahjumma clothing for Halloween. She nailed the look and we love it!

By the way, there's a group in San Diego, California who have flash mobs adorned in traditional ahjumma clothing. I definitely need to seek them out. The attached video gives you just a glimpse of what the Gmamas could be doing...
This just in! The uber cool Korean grocery store in The Bay Area, JAGALCHI, is now selling these vests! Judy, shall we get some?~Pat

I had forgotten the pads they used.... thanks for the reminder! Wouldn't it be nice to just wear whatever you want?
Those vests look like a nice warm layer for a Minnesota winter. Watching the ahjummas is reminding me, Judy, of the ladies in Gyeong-ju who were tending the flowers and wore pads to sit on strapped to their waists. Another example of useful ahjumma wear, if you're a gardener.
