KNIVES OUT!

I’m the cook side of this blog posting duo, right? I know Judy just posted her foray into making gimbap, and I think that’s great. To paraphrase the famous line from Hamilton, “I am not throwing away my shot,” I am not giving up my spot as being the one who knows how to wield a knife.
To that end, I just got my knives sharpened at Bernal Cutlery in San Francisco. Yes, it’s a schlep from Davis to S.F., but they really know what they’re doing. Best part was they sharpened them while I was there.
Since I was feeling so magnanimous towards them, I decided to check out their collection, and of course I bought a new knife. Kim helped me. Here he is holding our KDRAMA GMAMA business card along with the BERNAL CUTLERY one. No, I didn’t make him do it. After I bought my knife, he graciously said yes to my plea.

Kim is, of course, Korean. (You know me well enough by now to know I ask most everyone for their ethnicity. It sounds a bit like racial profiling… eek!) He used to work in a restaurant kitchen, and one of his jobs was to purchase new knives for the restaurant. He was so knowledgeable about the products Bernal Cutlery asked him if he wanted a job. What a great story!
He said he doesn’t know a thing about Kdramas, but his wife does, so I made sure to give him a card to share with her. Small world for us Kdrama fans, isn’t it? ~ Pat
Well, not to be outdone with knife stories I will mention that my House Exchange couple commented that for the first time when doing a house exchange they found my knives sharp. Do I go to Bernal Cutlery, no... it's too far. Instead I ask my ex-husband to sharpen them for me... isn't that what most people do? ~ Judy

Judy, You have a better relationship with your ex-husband than many of us have with our current partners! Congrats to you and G. for being trustworthy friends. I mean, I would only entrust my knives to someone who is tried and true.
