It's Pat. In all the Kdramas I’ve watched, I’ve never heard of a ritual dinner. In the Kdrama I just finished, You and Everything Else, the film crew has a ritual dinner before they start filming their newest movie. The crew gathers together to have a staff person prostrate himself and ask the gods of heaven and earth to save them from the demons of schedule cancellations, fickle weather, retakes, tardiness, and accidents. Then he asks that these demons be sent far, far away.
I can’t tell you how charming I find this. Clearly this ritual has roots in some Confucian
philosophy I don’t understand, but I wish we had something like this in our country that wasn’t particular to a specific religion. Think about how it could unite all of our disparate groups.
Judy here. Kind of like when Football Coaches call together a huddle and tell the team to go out there & dominate their opponents?
You're right Pat, I don't think we have anything similar. But unlike you I am less enamored
with the concept. Kind of like sage smudging or crystals or voodoo dolls.... just too contrived for this Gmama. And I have to be honest, I absolutely cannot picture Gmama Pat sitting in a circle holding hands with others and singing Kumbiyah. Nope, can't see it. ~ Judy

You are so right, Judy. I find that stuff cringe worthy. ~Pat

North American Indigenous Peoples and many members of immigrant groups have meaningful rituals, and the well-being benefits are well documented.
In Australia we have smoking ceremonies conducted by First Nations people for many events. The last school I taught at, used it each year and for special events.
I feel like I learned about this somewhere -- that it's rooted in very old shamanic traditions.
