WHO KNEW?

I’m sure you’ve noticed how much product placement there is for Kopiko coffee candy in Kdramas. It’s everywhere, always available for a pick me up in any stressful situation. One gets handed a Kopiko, and suddenly, the world is on its axis again.

Did you assume like I did that they are Korean? Well, they aren’t! Kopiko is a brand of candy originally produced in Indonesia. It is owned by a large, multinational company headquartered in Jakarta, Indonesia, and has been manufactured since the early 1980’s. (I'm absolutely stunned with this knowledge ~ Judy)

So what’s in Kopiko coffee candy? Yep, you guessed it: lots of real coffee from extract, sugar, oil, yadda yadda yadda. More importantly, how did it become so enmeshed in Kdramas? I have no clue. Perhaps it has something to do with the amount of coffee the actors drink in Kdramas. It's become a Korean national pastime.

Speaking of national pastimes, I bet Judy would prefer Soju flavored candy. Tell me, favorite blog partner, am I right? New business venture! ~Pat

Judy: What a FABULOUS idea! I could suck on Soju during workouts, while visiting the library, when I go to the doctors....the opportunities would be endless. Soju suckers, soju gummies, soju infused fudge, ...

Once every couple of months I come up with a good idea, and this is it! Judy, you’re the businessperson. Let’s see you run with it! ~Pat

I love those lollies (candy?) Kopiko. I used to eat them a lot - before the diabetes Now not so much or at all. They are wonderful. I kept a packet in my car as well as my classroom. (Only for me of course) I had no idea where they came from so thanks for that information. Love your blog. Saw a wonderful, gentle and very interesting Japanese movie last night called "The Parades". I love KDrama but I also love all language films and TV Shows. Even English! Happy Chinese New Year. Year of the fire Horse.
