I'm hoping that members can come here, maybe introduce themselves & we'll be able to chat/interact with each other!
As for me, I came to Kdrama through BTS--during a livestream, somebody asked Namjoon if he was watching SKY Castle, and he said "how could I not?". So I decided to check it out. I was intrigued enough to watch Mr. Sunshine next, and then I kept going, and now, 5 years later, I have about 375 dramas watched, and a "to watch" list that seem endless!
I love sharing impressions of shows with other fans, and wish for some Kdrama buddies to communicate with. Maybe this will be that space!
Please drop a line & tell us whatever you want--how Kdrama started for you; favorite genres; least favorite genres; personal top 10 (or 5, or 20); favorite actors; anything that comes to mind.
Hope to hear from you!

Hi Krystle
Welcome! Sounds like the same path I took. KDramas make life so fun!
I’ll check out Singles Inferno. Thanks for the recommendation 😊
Hi everyone,
I got hooked on Kdramas during the pandemic! My first one was “CLOY” (Crash Landing on You) and I've been hooked since! My husband also watches some with me and we enjoy Single’s Inferno too! It's a Korean dating show on Netflix and it's super “charming.”
Fun Fact: I was just introduced to this new blog because my husband met these bloggers on flight from
Sacramento to Minneapolis! And now I'm intrigued and can't wait to be a part of this cute forum and blog!
Nice to meet you all!
(Korean heart 🫰🏽),
Krystle Thornton
Hi Sally,
Glad you found the blog and I’m very impressed with your wide range of dramas from other countries.
Maybe you could share some of your favorite dramas that aren’t Korean and we could dip our toes into other cultures too!
See you on the green belt - Laura
I got hooked on Kdramas during the pandemic lockdown, as soon as Netflix started showing them. Retired after teaching English as a Second Language for forty years, I was fascinated to see all the cultural information Korean students had shared with me and the social dynamics that I had noticed in my classes but hadn't had time to explore.
At first the tropes bothered me; I even created a bingo game for all the typical scenes-- the broken heel, the piggyback ride, the accidental kiss, etc.--but then I began to enjoy all the different ways the writers could use them. Overall, the production values are fantastic, the music is wonderful, and the men are gorgeous, but even more importantly, I love the emphasis on cultural traditions, shared meals, and family relationships.
I prefer the rom-coms and lighter period pieces, but still sometimes have to fast-forward through disturbing parts or the long, complicated scenes of political machinations.
Kdramas have even motivated me to study Korean! As a linguist, I love learning new languages, and I've already picked up a lot from these series. I'll probably never be able to use Korean, though, as I also watch Japanese, Chinese, Thai, and European series and get them all mixed up in my head!
I agree with you. I’m so into Korean things that my husband has to tell me, “You know, you’re not Korean! !”
My husband doesn’t watch my shows with me, but enjoys the music in the other room. Often falling asleep to the soothing music.
I find that KDramas bring me such joy - they remind me of the good old days. I didn’t know that I could find a new passion as a grandmother. I have something fun to look forward to in the evening after work each day.
I’m so happy I discover CLOY. I never went back to US shows after I watched CLOY. I’m hooked for life😊
How did I miss there's a forum? My story about K-drama is a recent one. In November 2022 my oldest daughter listened to a podcast about North Korea and they mentioned CLOY. She watched it and started nagging me to watch it too. I must admit I didn't know anything about SK other than that it exists. So I didn't want too watch, why should I. She's good at nagging (don't know where she got that from ...) so eventually I gave in. And that was the end of my live as I knew it. I loved it so much, not only the drama itself but I found the language so beautiful and soothing. And I never imagined Korean men are soooo attractive (living in my white bubble all my life didn't prepare me for this huge culture shock). So I started watching most of Hyun Bin's drama's (his name is one of the few I can remember, I'm awful at names, I still can't remember all of my collegues names and in Korean it's even worse). And I've never looked back. I started CLOY in the second half of January 2023 and watched 80 dramas and 5 movies so far. My daughter only watched CLOY and Extraordinary Attorney Woo and that's it. She went back to her usual series. My husband doesn't watch K-drama either but doesn't mind me watching. And if he recommends a serie he has watched he ends with 'but no Korean actors and they don't speak Korean, so you'll probably not going to watch it'.
After K-drama followed K-beauty, K-food and K-music. I have to admit I'm obsessed with everything Korean. That's why I'm going to see it for myself in April. I'm going three weeks with my oldest daughter and than stay for two more weeks on my own.
Since I read Namjoon's name, another obsession (hence why I ordered the book recommendation "This is not a book about Benedict Cumberbatch : The Joy of Loving Something--Anything--Like Your Life Depends On It"), my next watch will be SKY Castle.
Surprisingly I think watching them a couple times can enhance your enjoyment. Since we're using subtitles it's sometimes hard to process quick enough; seeing it twice helps you to understand more!!
I first heard about KDramas 2 years ago when I read about “Crash Landing on You” in TV Guide. A woman wrote in and said she loved that show and could they recommend any others like it. I decided to check it out and I’ve been hooked ever since.
I love the way the stories are told, the respect the characters have for each other, the family connections, the innocent romance, the intertwined stories. It’s just fun.
I like both the rom coms and the more serious ones. My favorites: CLOY, Sometime in the Rain, Reply 1988, It’s OK not to be OK, My Mister,
Boys over Flowers, Signal, Hospital Playlist. I just finished Hello my Twenties and it was really fun. And there are 2 seasons.
I try hard to get other people to watch CLOY with limited success. But I have to laugh, because my old therapist finally watched it after I told her about it. She came to see me after watching it and told me, “It’s life changing!” She’s now watched it twice and is hooked on KDramas.
Glad we have this forum to share ideas.
