Spreading the Word!

It's Judy. You know, part of doing this blog thing is you get feedback from the blog host about how good (or bad) your blog is doing. This is not for the faint of heart.

It appears that we have a rather 'intimate' group of readers that return to the blog for updates. Kudos and Thanks to this elite group! Naturally Pat and I would like ALL of our 'members' to do this but, surprise...... only a portion complies with our wishes. Don't worry, I cannot actually identify who reads the blog and who lies to me and says 'oh yes, I read it...' (Do you hear that dear children?)

Just so you understand the lengths to which Pat and I have gone, let me list the specific efforts we have taken to get this blog to 'go viral.'

** Personal Letter to Julian Fellowes. Who better to create a series about grandmothers in America who fall in love with Kdramas than this fantastic British writer? No, he hasn't responded.

** Two, count 'em two, personal letters to Miky Lee. She is the CEO of Studio Dragon which is the leader in Kdrama content. Again, don't you think she could make deeper inroads into the US market if she made a feature length film about the adventures of the Gmamas? You'd go to that movie, wouldn't you?

** Hand made mini-quilts mailed to two notables in the Kdrama industry. I figured they might open my letters if they were bulky.... of course they could have incinerated them for fear of toxic contents but I'm ever hopeful. In this case I was pleading for a 'pen pal' from Korea to communicate with. So now I have 2 quilts floating around and I don't know where they landed... and no pen pal references. Thankfully Song, my magnificent Tour Organizer has filled that void.

** Business cards printed and distributed. I mean, who does this? Well, an ex-printer does! I'm about to run out and will have to re-order soon. I especially love the story that Pat told whereby she gave a Korean couple our business card & encouraged them to check the blog out.... when they left the restaurant they left our business card. <sigh>

** Incessant nagging. This probably surprises you, doesn't it? I believe Pat may be better at this than I am; she's fearless when it comes to approaching total strangers. But honestly, my dear friends have tolerated my nagging and even taken up the mantle of spreading the GMama word when traveling. Can't beat friends like that; even if they have had zero success.

** Entered a K-Influencer contest sponsored by the Korean Ministry of Culture. Barbara (from Minneapolis) alerted us to this opportunity. Even though we didn't meet the minimum requirements(!) we were able to cobble together a somewhat reasonable application... and it was noticed. All the people selected were under the age of 35 so we would be outliers in this group for sure. We actually had personal messages from the staff encouraging us to apply next year after we get the minimum requirements under our belt. Of course I mentioned we could be dead by then...

** We have learned how to better use computers and various software. (In truth, some of us more than others....) My personal favorite social media tool is Instagram. But I've also learned Shazam, Spotify, and Threads. And I'm getting schooled in IMovie and YouTube by my 27 year old niece in order to apply for the K-Influencer mentioned above next year. At our ages this is a major milestone. I'm not sure why the world needs to see the Gmamas on video but apparently that's the trend. And you know us, trendy if nothing else!

Judy’s enthusiasm and zeal for getting us noticed has even rubbed off on me. You know I’m well known for accosting strangers.

Well clearly Randi overrates our video skills and Barbara makes it sound really easy, doesn’t she?

I'm curious what the minimum requirements are. I'm guessing iMovie and YouTube are involved. I'm hoping you got some good video you can use at the Jin concert 😀

I think Julian Fellowes and Studio Dragon are missing the boat on a genius premise, although who knows, maybe they'll eventually get back to you. How about writing your own screenplay about the Gmamas, maybe featuring the tour, with fictional characters. The two of you are such good, funny, witty writers. Think of all the possible plot points.... stumbling their way through a jimjilbang, wearing hanbok, getting makeovers, etc. And all the different colorful characters. Maybe there's a screenwriting class around there with someone who has connections? I'm thinking now of the writer of CLOY who you saw at the Stanford conference. I think she was teaching a course at Stanford. Maybe there are other educational institutions or writers' conferences…
