STILL SURPRISED

Judy here. I'm four solid years into watching Kdramas and there are still things that surprise me.... even if I've seen them before.

I still giggle when I see the product placement (ads) for various products. Maxim coffee, Kopiko candy, & Subway restaurants are ubiquitious in Kdramas. Any Kdrama fan knows to comment 'wow, I feel a lot peppier' after eating a Kopiko.... it just goes with the territory.

Pat here with the red ink. I’m totally with you on the amazing ’qualities’ of Kopiko candy. It’s instant energy…NOT! Its restorative features must have rubbed off on us though, as we included it in the goody bags for the BTS concert.

I still notice the actor's breath when they're filming in cold weather. I never realized that California had such an impact, but now that I see their breath I understand that warm weather had an impact on what I was seeing.

I still am amazed at the quantity of food Koreans seem to eat and their unbridled pleasure while doing so. Everything from 5-star restaurants down to convenience store ramyeon gets a 'umm-umm' and wide open eyes.

I agree completely. How they can eat so much and remain so thin is beyond me. I do notice that the female actors do a lot of soup sipping, while the males dig right in.

I still cringe when I read the gossip columns at the incredibly petty and minute details that cause the netizens to go into a frenzy. The latest faux pas I noticed was an actress dyed her hair red a few days before election day.... and that was supposed to signify she was right-leaning. She apologized and immediately dyed it back to black.

The same thing happens here I think, but you’re not reading the right rags, Judy, if you don’t see it. We’ve got gossip galore about the most ridiculous subjects. It’s kind of sickening, actually.

I still appreciate how well Koreans cry. Actually I've decided they are more emotive than Americans are.... both tears and overflowing joy. Perhaps that comes from the 'stiff upper lip' of some of our European ancestors.

I still get confused by the names. Yes, I've improved and I can recognize many actors but the names of the characters are generally lost on me. Who is Kim? Who is Park? Who is Lee? Heaven forbid there be two Kim's in the same show...

I feel your pain here, Judy, and for right now mine is centered on the BTS members. I mean, THREE Kim’s in a group of seven? I’m lost! If I can ever tell Jung Kook from J Hope from V, I should get a reward…and not a Kopiko.

And lastly, I still think there are a lot of gorgeous Korean men. Old, young, actors, singers, idols, athletes.... a lot.
