Take That!

A recent article in the Korean Herald addresses the beauty routine that we see in Kdramas. No, it's not the wonderful products, it's not the ubiquitous face masks worn by both men and women, nor the prevalence of cosmetic surgery.... it's the fact that Koreans slap their faces when applying products. Not a gentle stroke on your cheek or smooth swipe on your forehead; but a rather startling slap as if you're halfway mad at yourself! They do this for toner, lotion, and foundation in the belief that it helps in absorption.
The research shows that actully slapping yourself when applying these things doesn't really have any impact. But apparently the Korean public hasn't received that message and many find the slapping rather satisfying. Isn't it interesting that Koreans use that methodology whereas I know of no Americans who do this. I will mention that I don't really know lots of Americans who even bother with makeup to the extent that is shown in Kdramas; but that's another topic. ~ Judy

Judy, I’m pretty sure that is called a PAT, no pun intended! ~ Pat
