My #1 Lee Jong Suk

Yes, you have to pick just one. For you, who is it and how did he or she become your #1?
Warning, this will be long-winded!
For me, my first Kdrama, recommended by a friend a few years ago was Rookie Historian. I loved it! It was original, feminist, with a very appealing FL (Shin Se-kyung) who was supposed to be several years older than the ML. I had no background or awareness of Kdramas so when I was struck by the extraordinary beauty of the ML (a 22 yo Cha Eun Woo), I was like, "what IS this?" (BTW I feel he gets a bad rap, he seems a perfectly competent actor)
So the journey began. Kdrmas ruined my life. 😜I'm still trying to find the balance. Luckily I'm a sports fan too. I used to be a big British TV fan but as much as I adore (really adore) David Tennant, I tuned in to his current series "Rivals" with eager anticipation and within 20 seconds of the show starting I had to see a really explicit sex scene in an airplane bathroom which then all the women in the plane were supposedly looking with longing at what I thought was a really crude unattractive looking guy.
I'm not a prude! But I have no interest in seeing other people's body parts simulating sex on screen. Yuk. You can get the idea across without all that. Just watch the classics from the 40's or 50's (no I'm not that old). They are very sexy. We get the idea just fine thank you very much. In Rookie Historian, at the end, they are lovers, not married, with intertwined lives. Wow! I guess I got Viki pretty quick and saw the rest of Cha's dramas. Gangnam Beauty and True Beauty also had some feminist themes. Since then, my favorite thing to do is, once I become aware of an actor I like through a current drama, I go back to the beginning of their career (at least as a lead or secondary lead) and watch everything sequentially.
To get to my point, I started watching "Romance is a Bonus Book" on Netflix, in 2022, before Big Mouth came out. I had no previous acquaintance with either lead.
OK, I was just floored by Lee Jong Suk's looks and the character he played and he wore the greatest autumnal wardrobe! (I learned later that he came up modeling first). That drama has flaws for sure but the charms outweigh them(as is the case with all our favorite dramas I think) I then went over to Viki for more dramas as he started young and his catalog as a lead went back to 2013. But first I watched "W Two Worlds" because the synopsis appealed to my husband. This remains my all time favorite drama. Imaginative, exciting,a thriller, science fiction, fantasy with a great romance with a couple with legendary chemistry and some of the best Kdrama kisses ever.
LJS has charisma, sex appeal, acting chops, the X factor. And he rocks turtlenecks. He just came back to dramas after THREE years away (although he had fan meetings) from acting. "Law and the City" (on Vicki) was a drama without drama, an ensemble piece I really enjoyed. Very glad to have him back! I realize I'm kind of stupid about him seriously. ALL of his dramas have been very successful; he picks out good scripts and is a sought after lead. In real life, he is said to be quite shy and his girlfriend is IU who is a superstar herself in both dramas and Kpop.
So, who is your #1? Just pick one and what is your favorite drama of theirs so we can check them out?
We had a great visit to Korea last October; I hope you'll have as much fun as we did! (Lots of blog posts in that time period if you want to review. Also, my co-author went in April of 2024 and there are a similar amount of her posts... WHAT???? YOU HAVEN'T SEEN MR SUNSHINE? You are missing out.... definitely put it on your to watch list. It's my all-time favorite & I rate it an 11 on a 1-10 scale. 🥰
