A? B? O? AB?

Judy here. Well chalk up another difference between Korea & the US. According to The Korean Herald newspaper 60% of Koreans believe that your blood type determines your personality. I had never heard of this until I noticed discussions about blood type in Kdramas. Not only that but apparently 49% of the population prefers O blood type. Since I have A type blood this has caused me some heartache after I read the article... surely, it's just because they haven't actually met me in person.

Per The Korean Herald "In South Korea, popular stereotypes associate people with type O blood with being confident and sociable, occasionally perceived as overly passionate. Type A individuals (yours truly) are often seen as timid, yet considerate and diligent, while type B

individuals are considered straightforward and blunt, but are sometimes stereotyped as cold-hearted and stubborn. People with type AB blood are typically thought to be logical and critical, but stereotyped as egotistical and even psychotic."

I'm hoping none of you fall into the AB category.... That could be distressing!

Pat here. I'm so lucky to be...wait for it...BLISSFULLY UNAWARE of my blood type. This means I'm probably a combination of logical, straightforward, confident, and sociable, don't you think? Works for me!

This reminds me of something else that has been casually mentioned in a few of the Kdramas I've watched. Sometimes they refer to a Briggs Myers type test to explain someone's personality. Has anyone seen this or am I hallucinating? For the uninitiated, Briggs Myers is a self assessment tool for people to find out how they perceive the world and make decisions. I've taken one several times and found my results to not be in sync with who I think I am, but, hey, that's just me in deep denial.

I did just email my doctor to see if I can find out my blood type, so I may have an update for you...if they results are in my favor.

Yeah, MBTI is a big thing in SK. It was or still is thing with young people in the US. Anyhoo, Asians can be quite superstitious, hence the focus on blood type and MBTI. I can say this (hopefully) without being canceled cuz I'm Asian 😂

We'll have a post later on the Myers-Briggs tool; watch for it!

Interesting article! My daughter tells me that type A is far more prevalent in Asia than other blood types. We are both O. My Myers-Briggs is ISFJ/INFJ--kind of on the border. It's stayed consistent over time (there is a professional version of Myers-Briggs that I was required to take for work) and I do relate to it. There are online versions (sixteenpersonalities.com is good) and Myers-Briggs.org has info for those who want to play around with it!

So mine is B. And my Meyers Briggs is INFJ. That last one is really a thing in SK, people ask about your MB apparently. I’ll better don’t tell my blood type then, because although I’m straightforward and pretty stubborn, I’m definitely not cold hearted. Blunt, most of the time I can bite my tongue in time 😇
