BAEKSANG 2025!

It's Pat. The Baeksang Awards (kind of like the Academy Awards) were presented May 5, and of course the one I’m the most excited about is Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born. Here is the reason: I wrote a post about it for this blog. For those of you who read it, it was published in February of this year. I’m so pleased Kim Tae-ri was rewarded for all her hard work and her stellar performance.

The other one I watched that won many awards was When Life Gives You Tangerines. If you like a slice of life drama with a bit of humor thrown in, this show is for you. I thought it was interesting, and I’m glad I watched it. I understand why it won, but, hey, it’s no Mr. Sunshine.

What I’d like to watch is Harbin, but I don’t know how to access it. If anyone has a suggestion, please fill me in. It won in the Best Film category. Anything to see Hyun Bin do anything has got to be a winner, right?

Of course Culinary Class Wars, is a must for an aspiring cook like me. It won the Grand Prize! (I wonder if it will make my bibimpap taste more authentic…)

I’m also putting Revolver, The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call, and Doubt on my list. They all won several different awards.

Face it: I want to watch it all!

Well, the big controversy surrounding the Baeksangs is why Kim Tae-ri won in Jeongnyeon instead of IU in Tangerines... This is burning up the Instagram posts for sure! I have yet to watch Jeongnyeon but from what I gather Kim Tae-ri studied over 3 years for the role and she was rewarded for this hard work by the Baeksangs. ~ Judy

Judy, even though IU played two separate characters, they were very similar. Kim Tae-ri’s performance was so much stronger. As you said, she had to learn how to sing and act in a particular way for the role, and this took years of preparation. Hands down, the award went to the right person.

I liked the lead in Trauma Code but other than ‘Hyena’ I haven’t seen his other work…. I suspect ALL the nominees are qualified to win! Thanks for your input Joonchild.

It’s so rewarding to see the comments we got from a guest and Joonchild. As usual, Joonchild does an excellent job at decoding the nuanced performances of all the actors! Thanks for your thoughts. And Guest, please let us know who you are so we can meet you!!

I want to see Harbin too. I will look at my streamers to see if I can get it.

I love both Kim Tae-ri and IU. I'm glad they're both getting lots of attention. I haven't watched When Life Gives You Tangerines yet so I'm looking forward to that (and Park BoGum!).

Pat, I've been interested in Harbin as well, so thanks for the reminder to check again. At this point it seems readily available online, I saw links for Hulu, Viki, Prime, Disney+ and YouTube. Happy watching!

I haven't seen Jeongnyeon, altho I did mention it to Judy back in October as something I thought she might like, because Kim Tae-ri.

The Baeksang mystery to me isn't so much the Best Actress, but the Best Actor award. I can't believe that Ju Ji-hoon won that award for Trauma Code, which is a light-hearted, semi-fantastical comedic turn, in which he was good, but not Baeksang good in relation to the other actors nominated. Unless they're rewarding him for his body of work.…
