CHUSEOK!

2 min read

Who knew I’d be at a Chuseok festival yesterday? Not me! While scrolling through my FB feed - yes, a colossal time waster unless you’re following KDRAMA GMAMAS - I noticed there was a Chuseok festival in San Francisco, and luckily for Tony and me, we were here!

Chuseok is a Korean autumn festival held during the full moon. It’s on the lunar calendar, of course. Many religions and cultures have a similar observance.

So off we went to spend the afternoon with more than 10,000 other observers in The Presidio, San Francisco. There were people in traditional dress, lots of booths hawking jewelry, booths for skin care, booths for Korean language classes. We even played YUNNORI, a traditional board game, and won.

We don't know these people... but they were at the Chuseok Festival to celebrate!

Of course we ate: japchae for me, dak galbi for Tony. The food we really wanted, gim bap and fried chicken, had lines too long, so we gave up.

There was lots of entertainment as well. Hey, there was even a wedding party who came to celebrate! And who knew Seoul and San Francisco were sister cities? Now I do. ~ Pat

Well, I certainly did not know that San Francisco and Seoul were Sister Cities! However, I did know it was Chuseok since my Language Class in Tucson encouraged us all to wear our Hanboks to class last week. Naturally I was the ONLY adult who did so.... but the Korean ladies were lovely to me & I wasn't too embarrassed. ~ Judy

Judy in her fabulous Hanbok... custom made in Indonesia. Korean versions don't come big enough for American bodies...
