FOREHEAD FLICKING
Lately I’ve been enamored with meting justice with - yes, you guessed it - forehead flicking. As far as I can tell, this is a phenomenon unique to Korean culture. I haven’t seen it in any other foreign shows I watch, and of course I haven’t seen anyone do it in real life… except me.
If you’re not sure what I’m talking about, the way I describe it is a release of the finger from the thumb to snap sharply against the skin. You make a circle of the thumb and the chosen finer, and you flick. There are several different ways of doing it. I always go with the index finger, although many people prefer the middle finger. (How I use the middle finger to show my irritation is not PG enough for this post, but I bet you know what I’m talking about.) If you can get away with it, several forehead flicks is the most rewarding. You might even want to rotate between fingers for maximum effect.
You know what’s best about it? It’s so satisfying to do! I do have to pick the appropriate time and place to do this, as no one really likes having it done to them. Know why? IT HURTS!! To make sure you’re not overstepping, it’s best to do when something funny happens. That way the inflictee (remember, you’re the inflictor) won’t try to haul off and punch you. That’s your hope anyway.
It can also be done when there is a friendly competition when playing ping pong, bocce, or even beer pong if your adversary gets too far ahead. There’s nothing like a little flick to distract and maybe even the score.
Happy forehead flicking!~Pat
Yep, another idiosyncrasy that we notice in Kdramas that we do not have in the USA. ~ Judy
