I THINK I CANNE I THINK I CANNE

Shoutout to my husband’s cousin, Melissa, who goes to Cannes yearly. She’s recently retired from the entertainment business where she was in sales and distribution of television shows. (Gee, I hope I got that right…)

Today when I saw that Park Chan-wook, the director of the critically acclaimed No Other Choice was selected as President of the Jury of the 70th Festival de Cannes, I let out a ‘Wohoo!’ I love it when Korean actors, writers, and directors get their day in the sun.

I don’t think No Other Choice was widely distributed, but it came to my little town and I got to see it. Judy had seen it before me and had mentioned it was funny. I completely agree.

Enough of agreeing with Judy. You know it’s more fun if I don’t.

Back to Park Chan-wook. He’s had a long and exciting career. His film before No Other Choice was Decision to Leave, which I hope to watch. He also directed The Sympathizer a mini series based on the book by Viet Thanh Nguyen. Robert Downey Jr. was one of the English speaking actors who starred in it. I read the book many years ago and found it hard to digest. The violence and betrayal portrayed were difficult. Clearly there are many shows to watch that Park had a hand in.

I hope my cousin gets to Cannes this year and meets its new President elect! ~ Pat

It's Judy. Pat plays down my importance in her life, doesn't she? I was the person who strongly recommended this movie to her! I found it creative, very Korean, & extremely funny. She kind of just ignores my role in all this, doesn't she? And to go one step more I actually emailed Viet Thanh Nguyen to discuss his book and received a lovely, thoughtful reply from him. That always is such a surprise when 'important people' take the time to reply. I'm still waiting for replies from all the notables in the Kdrama industry that I've contacted in my endless endeavor to get the Gmamas to become famous... to say nothing of the fact that above mentioned cousin hasn't hooked us up with any of her Hollywood contacts. Just saying...
