What? Pat and I Disagree?

What? The founders of Kdrama-Gmamas disagree with each other? How is that possible?!

I mentioned to Pat recently that I find Korean relationships between men as more fun and demonstrative than American men's relationships with each other. Of course she said, Au Contraire. So... let me make my case here & she can rebut if she dares!

Kim Soo-hyun can really, really cry.
Kim Soo-hyun can really, really cry.

Besides the fact that Korean men are fabulous at crying they seem to show their emotions more than American men. They don't seem to be inhibited by societal norms and are playful, affectionate, & obvious in their affection with other men. And I don't think this behavior is gay although many westerners interpret their behavior as such.

Examples of this include the Kpop power group BTS and the fact that they commonly hug one another, physically play with each other, and generally show how they feel about their bandmates. There's a recent video featuring 2 of the bandmates jumping waves at the beach; the 2 men are holding hands as they cavort in the water. Even Gay men in America don't typically do that! Perhaps it's the fact that they don't hesitate to physically touch one another whereas I think American men are typically hands off each other.

I recently watched Marble & Bro in Dubai; a reality game show set in Dubai, and noticed their openness towards each other. In this case they were playful. At some point in the game these adult men were asked to dress in costumes and go shopping in an outdoor market in Dubai. They didn't seem to be terribly concerned about appearing in costume but rather comfortably wore the princess crowns or camel costumes. And they kept the costumes going even later in the day when not needed for the game. Also in this show one of the men lies down next to his friend and hugs him to wake him up… I just don’t think American men do that! (That's one of my favorite actors, Yoo Yeon-seok in the cute earrings & crown.)

I can continue but I suppose I need to let Pat make her case. So tell me Pat, you think American men are as playful & affectionate as Korean men? ~ Judy

Pat: I haven’t seen a butt slap yet. Just saying…

Wow! Michelle may elevate our discussions to a more academic level! See Pat? She's in my camp... we think they ARE more affectionate towards each other.

(I know I am quite old) But in the 17th and 18th centuries, men of high society were often found walking arm in arm in England and Europe. However, I agree that SK men are very affectionate towards other males, and those who are not tend to be unaffectionate towards both males and females.

Also, many men from ancient Rome (according to Federico Fellini, Italian movie maker in the 60s) married for children but often had young men on hand for affection and sex.
