What's that Noise?

In all my years of watching American TV or attending movies I have never heard this noise. Not until I watched a Kdrama. And now it's a fairly common phenomenon. What is it? Well, it's growling stomachs.
I've mentioned before how food plays such an important role in Kdramas - and apparently Korean society - and growling stomachs is just one more symbol. I would guess that perhaps 20-30% of all Kdramas have a scene where one of the actors's stomach will loudly growl and everyone realizes 'oh, it's time to eat!' It can happen on the streets of Seoul, it can happen at work, and it even happens in romantic scenes. I don't actually know if they have a 'growling stomach' sound affect or if they have the actors starve themselves so they can have a grumbling stomach at just the right moment but it's certainly something you don't see in Western shows.
The most surprising thing is that the Koreans seem to be slim & trim.... which is a surprise given the volume of food they eat on Kdramas. ~ Judy
