It all started....

Updated: Feb 23, 2023

In Spring of 2022 my good friend Pat P called and excitedly recommended I watch the Korean Historical Drama 'Mr Sunshine' on Netflix. Since my retired life is pretty boring I figured it was worth a try. I will mention here that although I am a grandmother of 2 toddlers I do not consider myself elderly... perhaps society views me that way but I prefer senior, or mature, when describing myself. Actually I don't really even consider myself senior; I'm stunned to realize that I have grown children who are older than many of the Korean actors I'm now watching... When on earth did that happen?

Little did I know that this little adventure would change my life completely.

I had to adjust a few things when I began watching 'Mr Sunshine.' Firstly the subtitles. Although I keep the captions on while watching all TV I don't always read the captions. (Let's face it, we're at the age that we have trouble understanding our first language... much less all the accents we hear on streaming services! Throw in hearing aids and you'll understand why captions are a must for some of us.) Well, clearly my non-existent Korean language skills forced me to change the habit of only casually reading the captions. No longer could I do minor sewing tasks while watching TV; instead I was riveted to the captions trying to keep up!

From Episode #1 I was pretty well hooked. The cinematography was stunning, the music was lovely and not distracting, and I was vaguely following the story line. Since I am probably a snob I try to limit my TV viewing to a couple of hours a day; that way I can have the illusion that I'm more high-brow than the teeming masses. Plus I watch 'quality' TV as compared to drivel... (Again, was this about to change?) So, I limited myself at the beginning to perhaps 2 episodes per day.

So began my love affair with 'Mr Sunshine.'

As a Korean, I also really enjoyed this drama.

With Mr. Queen, this is my favorite one :)

Finding my way around and past the ads to get to Blog entries and Comments is more difficult than reading subtitles while trying to watch the actors' faces and movements. (Yes, I'm the one to whom Judy referred as being unable to do both simultaneously.) Today, I received an email telling me there is a new post to see. I guess that means that I succeeded in signing up to follow KDrama Gmamas. And, obviously, I got to this screen, however, the most recent post here is dated 11/21/22. And, I didn't find anything new via the Blog tab. And, the comment that I made a week ago is not here. Is it my karma, or do I have undiagnose…
